I knew there had to be a way to make this!!! Turns out I was right...Wellness Mama posted about this.
Here's a repost from a couple of years ago that I STILL use!
I'm always on the lookout for homemade deodorant since using the store brand has been linked to breast cancer (your glands are in your armpits...and breasts are glands as well..)
This homemade recipe is completely natural and harmless. And cheap. Maybe not cheaper than a deodorant crystal (since those last years and years!), but still cheap. :) You can add essential oils to make it smell nice as well. Just be careful of some essential oils because they are very strong. I've used lavender and sweet orange. Also if you want to make it totally organic just use organic products.
So I came across this receipe:
Ingredients for homemade deodorant:
1/4 cup baking soda
1/4 cup arrow root powder OR corn starch
5 tablespoons coconut oil
10 drops of essential oil
Directions for making homemade deodorant:
1. Combine baking soda and arrow root powder in a bowl and mix with a fork.
2. Start with about 4 tablespoons/one-fourth cup of coconut oil and essential oils. Add the coconut oil to the baking soda mixture, working into a paste.
The deodorant will have somewhat of a play-dough consistency, and will be softer or harder depending on its temperature. You can put the deodorant into a small container with a lid, or into an empty stick deodorant dispenser if you have one. My deodorant hardened somewhat after I put it into a container.
And the results are in:
I've used this deoderant for about five years now and it REALLY works! I live where it is really humid and most natural deodorants just can't hold up and this one holds up ALL DAY! But it's not an antiperspirant so expect to sweat a little. Besides that's the part that clogs up the glands anyways.
DO NOT put on after shaving your pits...you're warned! You will probably get an angry red rash. If that happens just stop applying it for a couple of days until the rash heals up. Then only apply 8 or so hours after shaving.
Ingredients for making Nourishing Face Cream
- 1 cup Grape Seed, Olive Oil or Jojoba Oil
- ¼ cup Virgin Coconut Oil
- 1 tsp. Lanolin
- ½ oz. grated Beeswax
- 2/3 cup Distilled Water
- ½ cup. Aloe Vera Gel or Juice
- Vitamin E at least 10,000 IU
- Vitamin A at least 150,000 IU
- 2 drops Essential Oil of your choice
- Clean Cream or Lotion Jars
Procedure
- Before you begin making your face cream, ensure that all the ingredients are at room temperature.
- The first step is to mix the grape seed oil, coconut oil, lanolin and beeswax and put them in the top pan of the double boiler. Apply low heat to the boiler and heat the mixture until the mixture has melted.
- Once melted, take it out from the pan and pour it in a glass measuring cup. Allow it to cool until it reaches room temperature.
- Now, put the distilled water, aloe vera, Vitamin E, Vitamin A and essential oil in a mixer. Make sure that you blend them at the highest speed. While you blend them, drip the above made oil mixture into the mixer.
- The lotion would start getting thicker and the mixer would get slow in speed. Turn off the mixer when you reach this stage. The face cream is ready!Pour the cream in fresh cream or lotion jar and store them in a cool place. If you do not intend to use the cream for a few weeks, you can as well put the jar in the refrigerator.
